For our first ever anniversary, Jon and I wanted to go hiking up near some waterfalls in Oregon. Everyone we talked to about them said it was really neat. We were planning on going to a more popular spot called Multnomah Falls but it was so packed that the parking lot was backed up onto the freeway! We decided to go exploring instead of waiting forever. There were still tons of different places to discover. So we got onto the Historic Highway and drove until we found a spot that looked promising and much less crowded! The falls were called Horse Tail Falls, and they were so awesome.

Jon and I didn't know if it was going to be a difficult hike or how long it would take to see any waterfalls. We just went for it, ready for an adventure.

The hike was a little tough at first. We were going up steep switchbacks for what seemed like a lifetime. Once we got to the top of those, however; things got a lot easier. Everything was so pretty. Lots of trees but lots of bugs. The view really was breathtaking. At one point, I got really close to the edge of a cliff to get a cool picture but Jon made me come back off of it! Smart man.
As we went along, we saw several waterfalls. At the third waterfall we found a spot to sit. We stopped and had a little picnic. Little bugs were trying to eat our food but besides them it was a perfect little moment.

We talked to some other hikers after our picnic and they told us that there really wasn’t anything further up the trail, so we turned around and headed back. The trip down took about half the time it took to get up! I couldn’t believe it.
Once we got home it was time to break out the well-traveled top tier of our wedding cake.
** A side note of our cakes travels ** My dad brought it up from California to Rexburg in a cooler. I took it down from Rexburg to Salt Lake in a cooler. Jon and I drove it up to Portland in a bowl of melted ice.
I had been letting it thaw out for a few days before. We were a little nervous because the frosting looked like chunky old milk. We ate it anyways. After all, it had traveled through four states so we could have it!

One year later and our wedding cake still tasted good!
All and all it was a wonderful day. Jon and I are just as much in love as ever and I couldn’t be happier.
